Joint work on sensitive patient data by RosemanLabs

The increasing importance of data in the healthcare industry requires innovative solutions for collaboration on sensitive patient data. Roseman Labs has developed a pioneering platform that enables stakeholders to work together on data and gain insights while ensuring the highest level of data security. In the following interview, we find out more about the motivation for founding the company, convincing potential customers and Roseman Labs' plans for the future.

How would you explain your solution in three sentences to a professional colleague from the health sector?

"The Roseman Labs platform allows parties to work together on sensitive patient data. They can create new insights by joining and analyzing each other's data, without being able to view this data. The data stays at the source and is only analyzed while encrypted, ensuring high data security and strong GDPR compliance."

What problem motivated you to start the company?

"To ensure appropriate and affordable care, now and in the future, we need to understand the impact and outcomes of the care, not just based on clinical studies, but on real world data. Unfortunately, this data is scattered, across care providers, public health organizations, payers and many other organisations which cannot freely share data between each other. To overcome this challenge, we have developed the Roseman Labs platform, enabling parties create the necessary insights, without the need to share or disclose their data to each other."

How do you convince a pharmaceutical company, a health insurance company or another potential client to set up a pilot project with you?

"Our product brings a revolutionary change to the healthcare industry. Imagine getting insights on treatment effectiveness, based on patient data from multiple care providers, across the patient journey, complemented with payer data, deep sociodemographic or even bio bank data. This will bring to light completely new insights, making healthcare more appropriate and affordable.

To realize this with traditional pseudonymization techniques is extremely difficult or impossible, and above all not safe. Instead we use an encryption technique called multi-party computation. With a team of 8 PhD level cryptographers and our own cryptographic software, we are a global leader in using this technique. One of our clients is the Netherlands National Cyber Security Center, who have extensively audited our software."

Who are your current customer (groups) and who do you want your potential customers to be?

"Our current customers include: groups of hospitals, associations of specialists, quality registers, national health organizations, regional health and social care initiatives, pharmaceutical companies. We also have a strategic partnership with IQVIA, a large health care solutions and data science company.

We currently have an active client base in the Netherlands, and are expanding in the DACH region. As a first step, thanks to 5-HT, we have been able to attend the “WeCare” event in Mannheim to connect with local clinics."

Where do you see yourself in 3 years and how can 5-HT support you?

"In 3 years we will have expanded our client base to several other European countries, also enabling health organizations across borders to collaborate with each other in an easy and compliant way.

Through 5-HT we hope to connect with the German healthcare system and pharmaceutical and medtech industry. Also, we would like to learn about platforms, events and influential voices in this domain that we could leverage to expand our brand- and product awareness."
