Startup innovations for clinical care - successful launch at WE CARE

How can the high demands placed on clinical care be met in the face of a nursing shortage? How can processes be digitized to create added value? These topics are also highly topical in nursing.

That's why the WE CARE startup competition took place for the first time on 21 November 2023 at CUBEX ONE in Mannheim, where young companies presented their ideas and solutions for digitalization in hospitals. The day was moderated by Katharina Klotzbach from CUBEX ONE and Amelie Nigbur from 5-HT. The event was organized by CUBEX ONE, Cluster Medical Technology of the City of Mannheim and 5-HT.

The joint goal of the organizers CUBEX ONE, the Medical Technology Cluster of the City of Mannheim and 5-HT Digital Hub Chemistry & Health was to ensure that care in hospitals benefits from the solutions of innovative startups.

To this end, startups were able to apply in advance and were evaluated by the participating hospitals. The 15 best applications were allowed to present their ideas to the expert jury on November 21, 2023, and the race was then decided between the final 5 innovations.

Not only the jury members were impressed by the many innovative and forward-looking developments, but also the representatives of the other clinics present.

"Wow, what great start-ups, mega digital health products and super-motivated founders! And congratulations to QUMEA on winning the pitch prize!" says Dr. Hannah Schlott from Mannheim University Hospital.

"The event is incredibly exciting for Cliniserve, but also for me personally. The personal atmosphere creates a great basis for intensive exchange, the format allows a focus on the essentials and the organization ensures a stress-free process. We are delighted to be part of it!" says Magali Heinkel from Cliniserve.

One highlight was certainly the passionate keynote speech by Dr. Hannah Schlott, UMM INSPIRE Living Lab, on collaboration with startups in the clinical environment.

The pitch competition was won by QUMEA and Anna Windisch, who impressed the jury with their solution for fall prevention and mobility monitoring.

It was great to see that so many inspiring players engaged in lively discussions to rethink the usual ways of providing care. This shows once again how important it is to exchange ideas in order to bring innovative solutions to the healthcare system.
