Startup Stories

In today's world, where fast and effective education of emergency medical professionals is becoming increasingly important, innovative approaches are in demand. The startup Gleea Educational Software offers such an innovation with its app "Einfach Retten". The digital solution is designed to support practice-oriented and accessible emergency medicine education and training. We spoke with CEO Stefanie Graumann to learn more about Gleea's mission, products and plans for the future.

The Gleea team

How would you explain your solution in three sentences to a professional colleague from the health sector?

Gleea Educational Software GmbH has set itself the goal of making learning in emergency medical education and further development more practice-oriented and offering the possibility of learning at any place and at any time. The training of emergency paramedics and other medical professionals should be deepened and qualitatively upgraded through individual, cost-effective and ubiquitous practical exercises.

What problem motivated you to start the company?

Today's education and further development of emergency medical personnel is facing new challenges: Legal certainty in the use of curative measures and ensuring the practical quality of education and training for full-time and volunteer emergency medical services personnel. Comprehensive simulations of realistic emergency operations are expensive and time-consuming. Our first product, the "Einfach Retten" app, offers the possibility of practising cases at any time and in any place through practice-oriented, simulated case studies. In doing so, we contribute to the two sustainability goals SDG 4 - Quality Education and SDG 3 - Health and Wellbeing.

How do you convince a pharmaceutical company, a health insurance company or another potential client to set up a pilot project with you?

The unique selling proposition is the simplicity of being able to practically train emergency situations without having to rely on third parties. The driver of success is the motivation of the users. We attach great importance to good user experience and gamification, and currently already have 3,500 active users. Our strength lies in our team, which has many years of experience in the emergency services and knows exactly the problems and needs of our target group. Compared to the competition, existing learning platforms offer classic e-learning with theoretical content in mostly static form. The few practice-oriented software solutions are expensive and require a lot of effort to implement. Gleea, on the other hand, offers high practical relevance and sustainable learning success at low cost. Through the continuous processing of practice-oriented case studies, the core competence of emergency paramedics, the treatment of patients and decision-making in complicated situations, is intensively trained. Through personalisation, everyone always receives the learning content that is optimal for them, regardless of their previous knowledge, without being over- or under-challenged.

Who are your current customer (groups) and who do you want your potential customers to be?

The target group of our primary market are full-time and voluntary professionals in the rescue service, as well as rescue service schools. Via a subscription model, schools and operators can purchase licences for their staff / lecturers and students. Full-time and voluntary staff from the rescue service can buy cases in packages via the App Store or Google Play Store using in-app purchases. There are around 71,000 full-time employees in the rescue service in Germany. In addition, there are 1.5 million volunteers in the B2C market in Germany only. Expansion to the DACH region is planned. With another planned app "Einfach Erste Hilfe", our market is expanding to lay people and thus approx. 68 million smartphone users in Germany. With the fire brigade and nursing professions, we also have further scaling potential. Everyone has become aware of the need for well-trained nursing staff since the Corona pandemic at the latest.

Where do you see yourself in 3 years and how can 5-HT support you?

In 3 years, we hope to be established in the rescue service in Germany and the DACH region with our app "Einfach Retten", both in the B2C and B2B market. In addition, we want to have launched our second product "Einfach Erste Hilfe" on the market and to achieve sales successes here as well. We want to use 5-HT primarily through better networking with other companies and through marketing support we expect a broader reach.
