Medicalvalues is an innovative, fast-growing medical software company based in Karlsruhe. With the vision to connect the dots in clinical pathways and enable improved patient outcomes. In our exclusive interview 5-HT X-Linker Alumni Jan Kirchhoff, CEO and co-founder of medicalvalues talks about their AI-based solution and what motivated him to start medicalvalues.

How would you explain your solution in three sentences to a professional colleague from the health sector?

"The AI-based solution from medicalvalues supports the complex diagnostic decision-making process by aggregating and interpreting enormous amounts of data across disciplines. With our approach toward integrated diagnostics, we improve the diagnostic quality, relieve the burden on physicians and optimize data utilization and exploitation of the entire diagnostic spectrum to make an early and precise diagnosis - also for rare diseases or those that are otherwise often overlooked."

What problem motivated you to start the company?

"Doctors have unique skills because of their experience in dealing with people and diagnosing illnesses. But with the flood of new medical technology and discoveries, there's now a huge and overwhelming amount of data. This data is beyond what doctors can handle on their own.
So, we came up with an idea: using AI and Data Science to develop a software solution to this problem. This software can analyze all the medical data, find important trends, and give doctors valuable insights. This way, doctors can make even better decisions and provide even better care to their patients."

How do you convince a pharmaceutical company, a health insurance company or another potential client to set up a pilot project with you?

"Our core mission is to enable personalized diagnosis, which in turn paves the way for personalized treatment. Unlike many startups that narrow their focus to a single disease or a specific group, with the aim of providing personalized diagnostics and treatment for a limited audience, we adopt a broader perspective. We are dedicated to the larger healthcare landscape, where our goal is to facilitate early and precise diagnostics accessible to all individuals. Our approach covers a wide spectrum of diseases, some of which are interconnected, and we achieve this through an interdisciplinary approach that includes fields such as neurology, oncology, and endocrinology. Additionally, our adaptability allows us to dive deep into specific areas when necessary and seamlessly integrate with the ever-expanding medical ecosystem. Recognizing the inherent variability in how each individual's body functions due to unique metabolic processes, we seek to incorporate this crucial aspect into the medical decision-making process. Our emphasis is on tailoring treatments to these individual variations. Through our personalized diagnostic recommendations, healthcare providers can optimize the treatment plan for each patient, considering their distinct profile. This approach ensures that every patient receives the most suitable and effective care possible."

Who are your current customer (groups) and who do you want your potential customers to be?

"Our solution is already in use in leading laboratories in Europe (amedes, Unilabs, medlab etc.) as well as at (university) hospitals in the context of various research projects (e.g. University Hospital of Mannheim, Marburg and Greifswald). In addition, we were able to establish partnerships with renowned companies (e.g. Siemens Healthineers, Microsoft, Google, Amazon). Further customers could be different stakeholders in the healthcare industry, e.g. future-oriented healthcare service providers, insurance companies working on personalized offerings, medical software vendors looking to differentiate their products, and pharmaceutical vendors or vendors of medical devices."

Where do you see yourself in 3 years and how can 5-HT support you?

Since our inception, we've been steadily gaining insights into the market dynamics. However, we remain committed to learning more about our target audience. In the future, our primary focus is on the optimization and further development of our ongoing product, ensuring that we offer our users the highest level of quality and support. We recognize the value of our partnership with 5-HT in expanding our network and improving our outreach to our target audience.

You participated in the 5-HT X-Linker Healthtech for Pharma in March 2023. What is your impression of the event and what have you gained (so far) from participating?

We found the 5-HT X-Linker event highly valuable. It introduced us to new ideas, opportunities, and valuable connections. The event's structured preparation and professional organization were impressive. We look forward to building on the connections we made and exploring potential collaborations with the industry leaders. We can strongly recommend this event to ambitious HealthTech startups.
