Teamfit: Revolutionizing Team Spirit and Health with a Digital Platform

How can team spirit and health be seamlessly combined on a single platform? Teamfit has found the answer: this startup provides an innovative solution that motivates employees to stay healthy and active while fostering team cohesion. In this interview, Sebastian Brunner, Co-Founder & Managing Partner at Teamfit, shares fascinating insights into the company’s journey, its achievements, and ambitious plans for the future.

How would you explain your solution in three sentences to a professional colleague from the health sector?
Teamfit uniquely combines the topics of team spirit and health in one digital platform. It connects employees in teams in which they work on common goals and compete in challenges with other teams, locations or companies. Participants have access to a well-thought-out range of sports, nutrition, mental health and sustainability activities, so that everyone can participate in the activities they like best.
What problem motivated you to start the company?
We originally launched the Teamfit app in 2017 for our own handball club in order to be able to map endurance and strength training outside of valuable team training time while still maintaining the team bond. We then gained over 180,000 new users within three months and immediately knew that the idea had huge potential to bring a large number of people together in the long term and motivate them to lead an active life, thereby making a real contribution to society. We founded Teamfit as a company in March 2021 and have since welcomed over 500,000 registered users and more than 120 corporate clients.

How do you convince a pharmaceutical company, a health insurance company or another potential client to set up a pilot project with you?
Teamfit offers three main strengths from which our clients benefit:
Thanks to the well thought-out team approach, we achieve above-average participation rates of often more than 30%. We initially focus on employees with an affinity for health, who are enthusiastic about the offer and act as multipliers by inviting other colleagues to join their teams. This creates real cohesion, which promotes community and at the same time sparks enormous motivation. Time and again, we hear from our customers that we succeed in activating people who have never taken advantage of an offer before and then cycle to work every day as part of a Teamfit Challenge, for example.
In order to reach as many employees as possible individually, we offer an extremely wide range of over 150 different activities. These include running, cycling, swimming, guided workouts, yoga videos, audio meditations and healthy recipes to cook. Appropriate knowledge contributions and quizzes also ensure increased health awareness.
The modularly configurable platform allows us to respond extremely flexibly to the individual needs of our customers. Existing offers can be seamlessly integrated, making Teamfit the front door and central communication platform for occupational health management. Our admin portal enables detailed data protection-compliant evaluations of the use of the various services.
Who are your current customer (groups) and who do you want your potential customers to be?
We currently work with around 120 companies from a wide range of industries. Our smallest customers have around 50 employees and the largest over 100,000. Larger customers in particular are often looking for a solution that allows them to reach employees across locations and countries - Teamfit offers an ideal solution here. Currently, we are mainly commissioned by companies from Germany and the DACH region, whereby the platform is then often used globally. Over the next few years, we want to tap into other European markets in particular, thereby expanding our target market. In the medium term, further markets such as the USA are planned.
Where do you see yourself in 3 years and how can 5-HT support you?
In three years' time, we want to be one of the leading platforms for health and team spirit. This means that our product will have evolved continuously. Even more specific content is available to our customers and a wide selection of predefined themed challenges enables a wide variety of competitions with minimal preparation effort.
5-HT can help us to expand our customer base, particularly through networking with relevant contacts from the business world.
You took part in the 5-HT X-linker “Innovation in occupational health management” in June 2024. What is your impression of the event and what have you gained from participating (so far)?

The event gave us exciting insights into current topics in the field of occupational health management. The exchange with other startups has already resulted in initial cooperation approaches that we can use to meaningfully supplement our product in order to further increase the added value for our customers. Interesting presentations and the direct exchange with the BGM managers of large corporations were also very valuable and gave us important insights into the challenges and trends of the current time. We are already looking forward to the next joint event and would like to thank you for the great opportunity to present our company.
