How can digital solutions support the emotional and mental well-being of cancer patients? Prosoma’s personalized medical product Living Well Plus is setting new standards in hybrid psycho-oncology. In this interview, Pavle Lederer, Business Developer at Prosoma, shares insights into the platform's creation, its impact, the mission to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients worldwide and what their participation in 5-HT's Insuring Digital Health in October 2024 has brought them.

How would you explain your solution to a healthcare professional in three sentences?

Living Well Plus enables fast, location-independent and gender-specific hybrid psycho-oncological care for cancer patients of all types of cancer. Patients learn how to cope better with cancer-related stress, anxiety and depression symptoms. In addition to the app content, patients can opt for a tele-coach module and receive support from qualified psychologists in telephone conversations over the entire 12-month period of use.

What problem motivated you to found the company?

Dealing with a cancer diagnosis and the associated treatment can be overwhelming and emotionally challenging for patients. They can face a range of mental health issues, including cancer-related anxiety, depression and a feeling of losing control of their lives. This can result in a significant deterioration in quality of life and subsequently a deterioration in health. Living Well Plus offers a solution to lack of care, low coverage, geographical or psychological barriers.

How do you convince a pharmaceutical company, a health insurance company, an insurance company or another potential customer to set up a pilot project with you?

Living Well Plus has already had a significant impact on the lives of numerous patients, helping them to alleviate anxiety, stress and symptoms of depression and providing comprehensive support during their cancer treatment. Living Well Plus also offers financial benefits to insurance companies by focusing on the holistic care of patients and addressing their emotional and physical well-being. The program offers a cost-effective solution with attractive ROI that reduces healthcare costs while supporting patient recovery. By reducing the demand for additional healthcare services and minimizing complications, the program helps optimize care, making it a long-term investment for insurers.

Who are your current customers (groups) and who are your potential customers?

Our customers are insurance companies and health insurance funds from the DACH region. We currently have contracts with 30 insurance companies. Our aim is to offer Living Well Plus to all cancer patients, which means that other insurance companies are our potential customers. We are also looking to collaborate with medical institutions, self-help groups and pharmaceutical companies.

You took part in Insuring Digital Health in October 2024. What is your impression of the event and what have you gained from participating (so far)?

The Insuring Digital Health event was a great opportunity to get in touch with health insurance companies and discuss opportunities for collaboration. By taking part in the event, we entered into an evaluation process with three health insurance companies.
