The Munich-based startup cureVision wants to be the new gold standard in wound documentation over the next three years. In an interview, Richard Fobo, Managing Director at cureVision, explains that their innovative technology allows you to measure chronic wounds within seconds at the touch of a button, while other important healing parameters are recorded at the same time.

How would you explain your solution to a healthcare professional in three sentences?

"cureVision revolutionizes the analysis, diagnosis and treatment of chronic wounds by combining modern, high-resolution cameras with Artificial Intelligence in one system. In just 2 minutes, a wound report is automatically generated, which is not only 90% faster than current methods, but also delivers 98% accuracy in the measurements. The solution combines automatic tissue analysis, 3D measurement and photo documentation at the touch of a button."

What problem motivated you to found the company?

"Chronic wounds are one of the biggest challenges for the healthcare sector in ageing societies, affecting 12 million people worldwide. However, doctors and nurses still use 19th century methods to decide on diagnosis and treatment. To determine whether a wound is healing, a paper ruler is placed next to the wound and photographed. This provides inaccurate results (up to 75% if two doctors measure the same wound) and no information about the depth of the wound or changes in necrosis, granulation or fibrin. However, these are essential healing parameters that indicate whether the wound is healing or not."

How do you convince a pharmaceutical company, health insurance company, insurance company or other potential customer to set up a pilot project with you?

"The cureVision solution automatically and reliably records the most important wound parameters at the touch of a button.

1. recording the depth of a wound is a major challenge for smartphone apps. Customers also have to attach reference markers or stickers to the wound. There are also no special sensors installed that allow the wound temperature to be analyzed, for example.

2 Special hardware cameras are often specialized in capturing ONE wound parameter, for example depth or temperature. cureVision delivers 98% accuracy in the analysis, captures not only the area but also the depth and volume and soon also the temperature. In addition to the increase in quality, other advantages include time savings, as cureVision allows wound documentation to be carried out up to 90% faster than with conventional methods. This means that the purchase of our solution pays off for the facilities after just a few wound patients."

Who are your current customers (groups) and who are the potential customers?

"Our customer groups can be divided into 4 categories: Clinics, specialized wound managers, nursing homes and outpatient care facilities. As our product has MDR approval, it can be used and sold throughout the EU. However, chronic wounds are a global problem and we want to support clinics and care facilities around the world in the treatment of chronic wounds."

Where do you see yourselves in 3 years and how can 5-HT support you?

"In 3 years, we want to be the new gold standard in wound documentation. To achieve this, we are continuously working on our solution and developing it further, both with new software features and new hardware components. Above all, 5-HT can help us to expand our network with valuable contacts in the healthcare sector and increase our overall reach."
