Startup Stories

The startup Blynksolve enables pharmaceutical manufacturers to create a clear, unified source of truth for their manufacturing processes. In this interview, Peter Blennerhassett, Co-Founder & CTO at Blynksolve, explains their software solution for pharmaceutical production and why they already see themselves as the market leader in the pharmaceutical manufacturer category.

How would you explain your solution in three sentences to a professional colleague from the industrial sector?

"We provide a software solution for design, collaboration and knowledge management in pharma manufacturing. It's ideal for Tech Transfers, Ops Readiness, MES design and CDMO/Client collaboration. It helps pharma manufacturers to create a clear, shared understanding between all groups, reduce errors and enable everyone to be more productive."

What problem motivated you to start the company?

"The pharmaceutical industry faces significant challenges. Timelines have contracted, manufacturing is more complex, people are moving more frequently while cost and quality is as critical as ever. Having worked in pharma manufacturing, we experienced firsthand the frustration of navigating chaotic, siloed information systems and the resulting inefficiencies, delays, and increased costs. This motivated us to create Blynksolve, aiming to provide a clear, unified source of process knowledge that improves communication, reduces errors, and accelerates project timelines. Other industries have solutions for very similar challenges but there really wasn’t anything out there for Pharma."

How do you convince an industrial company to set up a pilot project with you?

"Pharmaceutical manufacturers require a high degree of trust in their partners and we take their trust very seriously. They are also very time-poor so we take care to be respectful of this. The steps we take to build this trust are the following.

1. Firstly we ask them about their challenges to understand what they might be struggling with. It may be the case that we can’t help their specific challenges but it’s important to find out quickly and not waste anyone’s time which is appreciated.

2. We share our research, having performed over 100 in-depth interviews with pharma manufacturing professionals from all functions to understand their challenges. We are passionate about solving these common challenges and our customers appreciate the lengths we go to to really understand it from every angle.

3. We then show a demo because technical experts enjoy lexamining how they might use the platform and typically have lots of questions. It quickly becomes clear to them that the platform was built with deep domain knowledge of pharma manufacture, that it fits into their existing ways of working and that they’ve never seen a product like it.

4. Based on the intended use, we ask questions to generate an ROI calculation to help them with their business case for the project. Once we are at this point, the benefits become clear to the company and it’s a case of aligning stakeholders to the project and agreeing details such as how we will ensure and measure the success of the project."

Who are your current customer (groups) and who do you want your potential customers to be?

"Our current customers include top global pharmaceutical manufacturers who are utilizing our platform to speed up their tech transfers, MES design and CDMO/Client collaboration. We aim to expand our presence in mainland Europe, the East Coast of US and Singapore. We are focused on API/DS pharma manufacturers, either CMO or direct manufacture, though we are working to expand the offering to DP/OSD. We also work with partners such as No Deviation based in Singapore."

Where do you see yourself in 3 years and how can 5-HT support you?

"We see ourselves as the market leader this category for pharma manufacturers globally. We will be supporting the majority of top 10 pharma companies with also a major presence in Small/Medium sized Pharma in Europe, US and Asia."
