On Friday, 03 June, we heard "Build crosslinks now!" for the third time this year. Under the slogan "Smart Production", 10 international startups presented their digital solutions for the process industry as part of the 5-HT X-Linker "Smart Production".

A glimpse of the final day

The event was hosted by Max Huber from 5-HT. "Our goal is to drive innovation and strengthen the exchange on the development of process technology," said Max, our Digital Ecosystem Manager, after the event.

The key to digital transformation is collaboration

Just one of many highlights was the welcoming speech by Dr.-Ing. Gunther Kegel, CEO of the Pepperl+Fuchs Group, President of ZVEI e.V., Vice President of VDE Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik e.V. (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies).

Welcoming speech by Dr.-Ing. Gunther Kegel

"More focus on sustainability and faster independence from fossil energies and thus electrification and digitalisation are indispensable and, in the same step, also the key to the big and important questions of our time," Kegel emphasises at the beginning of his speech. "To achieve this, we are looking for innovative start-up ideas that will help us in terms of sustainability."

10 Digital solutions improve the process industry

After the inspiring words of our speakers, it got serious. Now our ten selected start-ups were in the spotlight. In front of several hundred guests, the founders each presented their innovative solution in a 4-minute pitch. The audience was given an exciting insight into the various innovations from different areas.

These included, for example, patches that give robots a human sense of touch or an app that revolutionises everyday factory life. But that was not all.

Directly after each pitch, there was a Q&A session with the jury members. In this session, the founders were able to delve deeper into the topic and answer specific questions from Peggy Görlitz, Germany Trade & Invest, and Rudi Held, SAP.

Q&A Sessions

These ten startups impressed with their innovative digital solutions in the field of smart production:

Eeaser Gundelfingen, Germany
Energiency Rennes, France
Etalytics Darmstadt, Germany
Lexatexer Berlin, Germany
Pronary Darmstadt, Germany

XELA Robotics Tokyo, Japan

The 10 selected startups

An exchange at eye level - startups meet industry giants at the Corporate Speed Dating.

The 10 pitches of the participating start-ups formed only the first half of the event. This was followed by the Corporate Speed Dating. In these 1:1 conversations, the start-ups were given the unique opportunity to exchange ideas exclusively with industry giants. We are proud that also for the X-Linker "Smart Production" these following world-renowned corporations took their chance to participate:

Amazon Web Services (AWS), BASF, Endress+Hauser Group, FUCHS Group, Henkel, Heraeus, Pepperl+Fuchs Group, SAMSON GROUP, SAP, SCHOTT, WIKA Group.

In recent years, this part of the event in particular has resulted in numerous projects and further measures between start-ups and companies.

We are very pleased that initial feedback this year also indicates a high number of follow-up discussions between the participants.

Virtual event space networks startups from Berlin to Tokyo

The setting was embedded in a virtual event space including an exhibition area to showcase the range of services of the participating startups, which allowed the audience to fully immerse and interact in the virtual 3D environment. In our exhibition area, not only the corporates but also the round 70 guests could inform themselves about the participating startups.

5-HT X-Linker: Smart Production - a complete success

Dr. Frank Funke, Managing Director of 5-HT, also looks back on the event with pride: "Once again a successful matchmaking event, this time to strengthen the exchange in the development of process technology. I hope all guests and participants enjoyed the event as much as I did. I wish all participating start-ups every success."

The feedback from the participating startups and corporates shows that the event was successful this time as well and that some follow-ups are already underway:

Martin Haagen from Eeaser - "Many thanks to 5-HT Digital Hub - Chemistry & Health for the great event! Meeting 11 companies for direct exchange within half a day was really helpful for us!"

Dr. Philip Hartmann, Head of Digital Acceleration at Schott AG - "Great event! Thank you very much for inviting us."

We would like to thank all participants and guests for the successful event and the positive feedback! See you next time when it's Build crosslinks now!
